Dupuytren’s Disease (DD) is a clinically challenging fibrotic palmar fascia disorder in aging patients that is representative of other connective tissue diseases in orthopedic patients. DD has genetic, inflammatory and biomechanical causes that result in excessive myofibroblast mediated extracellular matrix deposition and formation of dense and constrictive fibrotic bands (cords) within the palmar fascia which leads to significant patient morbidity. The current standard of care targets late stages of the disease by removing or weakening the fibrotic cords that severely impair manual dexterity.
